Fumu Kento Water Well Project

Project Scope & Infrastructure Plan

The goal is to move past temporary fixes and construct a permanent, self-sustaining system including:

  • Solar-Powered Borehole Well: A mechanized well that eliminates the need for expensive, unreliable fuel.
  • 10,000-Liter Storage Tank: An elevated tank to secure a steady reserve of clean water.
  • Community Tap Stands: Three strategically placed distribution points ensuring every family lives within a short 500-meter walk of fresh water.
  • Local Management: A trained Water Management Committee from the village will oversee operations, utilizing a modest community tariff model to self-fund future maintenance.

Here is a preliminary budget allocation based on a $45,000.00 USD funding target for the Fumu Kento Water Well Project. This breakdown ensures that the funds cover everything from deep ground drilling to clean power, storage, local distribution, and community training for long-term sustainability.

Project  Budget Breakdown

Project Phase Component Price Estimate (USD) Allocation % Description
1. Hydrogeological Survey & Drilling $14,500.00 32.2% Professional geological assessment, deep borehole drilling, casing, and well-head stabilization.
2. Solar Power System & Submersible Pump $9,500.00 21.1% High-capacity solar panel array, mounting structures, inverter, and heavy-duty submersible pump.
3. Water Storage Infrastructure $8,000.00 17.8% Construction of a reinforced concrete elevated tower and a 10,000-liter durable water storage tank.
4. Distribution Network & Tap Stands $6,000.00 13.3% Trenching, piping, and construction of 3 decentralized community tap stands to ensure short walking distances.
5. WASH Education & Community Training $3,000.00 6.7% Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) workshops for residents, and training the local Water Management Committee.
6. Logistics, Transport & Project Oversight $4,000.00 8.9% Transporting heavy machinery and materials to the rural site, engineering oversight, and final water quality testing.
Total Project Budget $45,000.00 100% Complete, fully operational, and self-sustaining water infrastructure.

Core Impact of a $45,000 Investment

  • Permanent Solution: Replaces unsafe, contaminated surface water with a reliable, deeply sourced groundwater supply.
  • Zero Monthly Fuel Costs: Utilizing solar power eliminates reliance on expensive diesel, keeping long-term maintenance costs affordable for the village.
  • Health & Economic Lifeline: Directly reduces waterborne illnesses for 1,500 residents and frees up hours of daily labor—primarily for women and children—previously spent fetching water
